A Fishy Tale (Tail)

Our maintenance team created a large fishpond on the front Lawn during the summer months. Starting from scratch and using the internet to research the creation, fabrication, stocking and maintenance, the completed project looks truly great and is enhanced by a fountain and illuminated at night.

Despite early problems with a Heron stealing some of the giant Koi carp, which was remedied with the removal of the Heron statue (contrary to online advice that the said statue would prevent thefts of fish) we discovered that during the mating season this preventative device became a magnet for lonely heart Herons looking for a mate and a free lunch.

The Koi have settled in well and the environment the team created for them must be more than satisfactory as there has been lots of baby Koi born.

A Big “Thank you” to Neil and Dave from all of us at Carylls, for their hard work and creativity, and for seeing the project through by fine tuning the “Fishy environment”.

We have happy healthy fish and a beautifully landscaped pond that is a stunning addition to our grounds. It was gratifying to see some of our guests, on one of the few sunny days we had, sitting on the benches near the pond enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the gardens and of course the “new pond”.
